Avocado Salsa Recipe

This avocado salsa recipe might remind you of El Pollo Loco, but this is what they serve in the hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurants in San Diego and Los Angeles. In fact, it’s very similar to what I enjoyed at Tacos El Gordo — a chain from Tijuana, Mexico that has expanded to Las Vegas and San Diego. Hope you enjoy the recipe!

Avocado Salsa Recipe


  • 2 avocados
  • 2 jalapenos
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons white wine vinegar or lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 of a white onion
  • 1/4 cup cilantro leaves


  1. Remove seeds from jalapenos. Pit avocados.
  2. Place all ingredients in a food processor or blender and blend until smooth. Serve with my homemade tortilla chips or street tacos!
