Don’t Forget the Hot Sauce!

A good hot sauce is also key to my grilled sourdough breakfast sandwich recipe. Marie Sharp’s Habanero Hot sauce is our favorite. Some other contenders include Tapatio, Cholula, and Texas Champagne Cayenne Pepper Sauce.

Customization is key!

The beauty of this grilled sourdough breakfast sandwich lies in its versatility. Here are some additional ideas for customization:

  • Spice it up: Add chopped jalapenos, chorizo or sriracha to the egg mixture for a spicy kick.
  • Go green: Include a handful of spinach or arugula for a burst of fresh greens.
  • Veggie delight: Layer in roasted vegetables like peppers and onions for added flavor and texture.
  • Sweet and savory: Spread a thin layer of Hot Pepper Jelly or Dijon mustard on the bread before adding cheese for a sweet and savory combination.
  • Change up your Bread: If you want to make something more unique, use a donut or waffle instead of the sourdough. You can also make this with bagels, English muffins or croissants.

With endless possibilities, your grilled sourdough breakfast sandwich can be a unique and delicious way to start your day. So, get creative, have fun, and most importantly, enjoy the delicious results!

Although you can easily get these from your local fast food joint, nothing beats homemade. I make my breakfast sandwiches with San Francisco sourdough bread, thinly sliced Cheddar or American cheese, and plenty of hot sauce. The meat fillings change depending on what we have on hand, such as bacon, Morningstar sausage patties, and even turkey bacon.
