But before you grab your shaker, let’s dive into the magic behind this margarita.

A Fusion of Flavors: The Spicy Tajin Margarita’s Story

The Spicy Tajin Margarita is a testament to the vibrant culinary exchange between Mexico and the United States. The classic margarita, with its tequila, lime, and orange liqueur base, hails from Mexico, while the fiery Tajin spice blend, featuring chiles, lime, and sea salt, is a proudly Mexican invention. Combining these elements creates a flavor profile that’s both familiar and exciting, a perfect balance of sweet, sour, spicy, and salty.

The Caliente Spicy Margarita

During a recent visit to Rancho Mirage near Palm Springs, we enjoyed the Westin Mission Hills Resort’s award-winning Caliente Margarita. We were fortunate enough to get the recipe from the bartender so we could make it at home!

The resort’s Caliente Spicy Margarita ingredients include Tanteo Jalapeño Tequila, Grand Marnier and Grapefruit Juice. Their Spicy Margarita Mixer is the Island Oasis Premium Margarita Mix, which is sweetened with Agave Nectar. For the Spicy Margarita Rim, all you need is a plate of Tajin seasoning. You rub the rim of the glass with some lime juice and coat the rim well. Finally, garnish with a fresh lime wedge or fresh sliced jalapeño.

Make your own Jalapeno Tequila

If you want to make your own jalapeño tequila, it’s actually quite easy! You simply add 6-8 sliced jalapeños to a bottle of tequila and steep it for 12-48 hours. Then, just strain the seeds and jalapeños out and pour it back into the bottle with a funnel.
