Cowgirl Creamery

Cowgirl Creamery, located in Point Reyes Station, is famous for its artisan cheeses, served in some of the best restaurants throughout the United States.

Located inside a historic hay barn on the Northern California coast, the business was founded in 1997 by college friends and business partners Sue Conley and Peggy Smith.

Foodies flock to this charming creamery to stock up on fresh-made fromage, take a class, or take part in their weekly cheese-making tours. While you’re here, you can peek through the glass window to watch how cheese is made, or sign up for their cheese tasting class. Offered at 11:30 a.m. Fridays (pre-COVID), the behind-the-scenes experience included a 60-minute presentation about cheese, followed by a delicious tasting.

Cowgirl Creamery cheeses are revered across the state for their creamy texture and unbelievable flavor, and Mt. Tam, Wagon Wheel and Red Hawk are three of their most popular varieties.

Pre-COVID, Cowgirl Creamery’s Petaluma location offered tours at 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays. This experience, geared toward adults only, included a a cheese-making demo, tasting and a cheese sampler to bring home.
