Blackstone On the Go Pizza Oven

Today I want to share my Blackstone On the Go Pizza Oven Review! This is one of my latest camping finds, and it’s been so much fun to use! All you need is the Blackstone 17-inch Griddle with the matching Blackstone On the Go Pizza Oven attachment. I picked this up last week at Lowe’s Home Improvement, who sponsored this video. All opinions are mine, and you won’t be disappointed with these products!

If you want fresh baked camping pizza, this is how you’re going to do it! To convert the 17-inch Blackstone griddle to the Blackstone Pizza Oven, youā€™re just going to lift the griddle off carefully. There are two little pins in the back. You slide it a tad, and it comes right off. Set the griddle aside, and then place the pizza oven on top.

Blackstone On the Go Pizza Oven Assembly

The Blackstone pizza oven assembly was incredibly simple. All I had to do was put the handles on, and slide the two pizza stones inside. Itā€™s so cool because it’s so portable.

All you need is a 16-ounce propane tank. The pizza oven has a removable heat shield. One cooking stone is on the bottom, and the other is on the top, which allows for more radiant heat on both sides of your pizza.

I really like the built-in thermometer so you can monitor what temperature you want to cook your pizzas. However, for the most accurate reading, I recommend a high-temp oven thermometer or infrared laser temperature gun. I found that the inside of the oven was reading much hotter than the built-in thermometer that comes with the unit.

Another thing to keep in mind when you’re setting up your Blackstone pizza oven is to give yourself plenty of clearance on the back and sides so it can ventilate properly.

You always want to preheat your Blackstone Pizza Maker. If you’re at a high altitude with cold temperatures, it may take longer to heat the pizza oven up. Your 16-ounce propane tank will last at least 3-4 hours on the highest heat setting, so thatā€™s plenty of time for multiple pizzas.

Preparing My Blackstone Pizza Recipe:

I run the propane on high for about an hour before cooking in my Blackstone Pizza Oven. It took about 45 minutes to reach 400Ā° F at 6,000 feet with a 50Ā°F temperature outside. Ideally, you want your pizza oven at 450Ā°-500Ā°F, but I found 400Ā°F produced great pizzas.

I prepare my pizzas for the Blackstone Pizza Oven by sprinkling some cornmeal on top of my pizza peel. This is going to help slide it into the oven easily.

Iā€™m using my homemade pizza dough recipe, but you can use a store-bought pizza dough if you prefer. I dress it up with a simple pizza sauce made from canned San Marzano Tomatoes that I blend up with the little olive oil, salt, the little sugar and some pepper. Then, I just add some fresh sliced mozzarella, and spicy Italian salami (pepperoni here in the states). Ā

Open the pizza oven door, and give your pizza peel a little shake to place it in the center of the oven. Keep a close eye on it, since it will be ready in about 3 1/2 to 4 minutes ā€” depending on how hot your oven is.

After removing it from the oven, let it rest a bit before cutting. I like to sprinkle it with some Barbera Piccantolio Chili Oil from Sicily that we picked up from Italy earlier this year. Just a little drizzle is all you need!

If you can’t find this brand, I highly recommend Trader Joe’s Italian Bomba Hot Pepper Sauce made with fermented and crushed Calabrian chiles.

Blackstone Pizza Oven Attachment Review

In conclusion, I must say that I’m very impressed with Blackstoneā€™s 17-inch ā€œOn the Goā€ Pizza Oven. Like I said, this is perfect for camping, tailgating and outdoor picnics. Itā€™s super portable and makes perfect personal pizzas for you and your camping crew!  My wife made a fig jam, feta cheese, pepperoni and arugula pizza, shown on the left below.
