Equipment

Ingredients

  • 2 slices Ciabatta bread or any crusty Italian bread
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 slices provolone cheese
  • 2 slices salami
  • 2 slices prosciutto
  • 1 slice heirloom tomato optional
  • 1 small handful of arugula optional
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Heat a panini press or grill pan over medium heat. Brush one side of each bread slice with olive oil.
  • Assemble the sandwich: On the un-oiled side of one bread slice, layer half the provolone cheese, followed by the salami, prosciutto, tomato (if using), arugula (if using), and the remaining provolone cheese. Top with the oiled side of the other bread slice.
  • Grill the panini: Place the panini on the preheated press or pan. Top with a weighted object (another pan or a heavy book) to press down and ensure even cooking. Grill for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  • Slice and enjoy! Carefully slice the panini in half and serve immediately.
